Haplo, LLC is an independent software studio founded in 2021 and run by a single developer. The studio builds native Swift apps for Apple platforms with a consistent philosophy: local processing over cloud, zero data collection, and no subscription wherever possible. Its nine shipped apps span focus (Barrier), on-device AI (Haplo AI), investing analysis (Haplo AI Investing), machine-learning tooling (Annot8), design (EasyLogo), documents (Markdown2PDF), fitness (Cinder), developer tools (ShipHappens), and travel (Bilbo). The studio's motto: "We're a tiny studio. Ship happens. (often.)"

Consumer AI without the cloud

Haplo AI runs Llama, DeepSeek, and Phi language models, plus image generation and vision, entirely on an iPhone or Mac. Turn on airplane mode and everything still works. No account, no subscription, nothing leaves the device. As Apple pushes on-device intelligence, one developer is already shipping it.

The app that makes ads work for users

Try to open a blocked app in Barrier's Goblin Mode and a goblin roasts you by name, then makes you watch video ads before you're allowed to "rot your brain." The ads are the deterrent: users get friction that actually sticks, and the developer gets paid every time willpower fails.

Unbundling the fitness subscription

Recovery insight and run tracking have become a stack of subscriptions. Cinder bets the Apple Watch already collects the data: workout logging, AI training chat, GPS routes, and optional Strava sync, with health data that stays on-device and in Apple Health.

Chatbots can't read a map

AI chatbot itineraries look great as text and fall apart on the ground: wrong neighborhoods, closed museums, zigzag days. Bilbo's on-device AI plans day-by-day trips that make sense on a map, respects opening hours, and works offline mid-flight. It never sees where you're going.

The developer

Haplo is the work of one software engineer. Since 2021 they have designed, built, and shipped every app in the lineup themselves: every line of Swift, every icon, every App Store screenshot (using ShipHappens, the tool built for exactly that). They build in public at @JC_builds and are available for interviews, podcasts, and background on on-device AI, indie app development, and the one-person software business.
